k, folks this is the official save-the-date notice. a more formal notice with relevant info on events and registration will be coming along here soon. but for a few informal sneak peeks into what's going on:

• first, you noticed a date change. used to be the weekend BEFORE memorial weekend and this year we are doing it ON memorial weekend. the big reason we did this is to give us, and those traveling a day to recover (for those lucky enough to have monday off). the response seems to be love or hate (we've gotten some hate mail) and rarely in between. and yes, we know that amerivespa is that weekend, but what the hell, let's see what happens and have some fun.

• if you hadn't guessed by the title, this year is a throw back school theme

• more ride options (we're callin' them "classes". ain't we just so friggin' clever?):
- math ride: jason, the fabricator of all things gymkhana, leads a meandering city ride with some stops at our lovely gambling establishments
- chemistry ride: a ride followed by a tour of our very own micro brewery, Boulevard Brewery, followed by tasting of their fine craft. lead by paul, our resident home brewer†*
- geography: angry J takes you on a faster long ride to our neighboring town of jayhawk country; lawrence kansas¥
- history: a historical tour of kansas by jeff, who is, and those who were at rally pasts know, known for these popular historical rides.
- art: owner of Scooter World, and founder of the Mad Totos, mike levitt, leads an scenic, all scoots, ride of what artistic and natural expressions the KC area has to offer. including a a nice run down the twisting, tree lined blue river parkway.
- pe: let's get physical with yours truly and do an on road urban ride leading us to jager's paintball where we'll battle it out underground in one of kansas city's many large retired mining caves.†

• oh yeah, there will the back alley ride on friday night. who will break down out side of a crime scene inthe industrial section this time? saint louis- you guys have any thoughts on that?

• lots of food (and a good portion of it free (including booze for those of the legal drinking age)!

• kick ass raffle

• 2 versions of gymkhana. JV (for those who like to keep it on the mellow) and varsity (for those who don't mind a ramp or two).

• "prom" (<- that's what we are calling the saturday night party. tacky prom apparel is encouraged, but not required)

• tshirts and patches (supplies limited so pre-reg early)

• a special raffle drawing (and this prize ain't just some little crappy item we found on the floor of the shop) for those who pre-reg. and entry into this raffle is free as long as you pre-reg before the cut off date. earlier you register, the more entries you get! (that's right, we aren't above bribery to get you all to register early!)

• standard raffle tickets will be also available for purchase using paypal for those use the pre-reg and will be in your raffle pack when you check in.

† - available only to those who pre-reg because rsvp and additional fee required
* - limited opennings
¥ - scoots must be able to reach and maintain a minimum MPH (to be disclosed later)
all other rides are free, require no RSVP, and open to all makes and displacements of scooters

registration and information is project to be online Feb 1st. i'll post here to let you know as soon as it is.

I had an absolutely great time at last years rally. And, until I found out you had made this change, I was so totally excited for this years.

However, I have to say I am very disappointed in your choice of dates for this. I know you picked it for a reason, but I hope that next year you will reconsider and move it to any other weekend, PLEASE pretty please.

Memorial Weekend is a holiday for many people, almost everyone I know has long established plans for this weekend. Myself included. I attend a family reunion every year, and have done so my entire life. I just cannot skip that, so instead I have to miss your rally.

I hope it works well and everyone has a great time, but I am definitely upset that I will not be able ot attend. I will have to be there in spirit only.

yeah, we've gotten mixed feedback on it, some along the lines which you just said (although you were much more polite about it than other have been). other's have been extremely positive. it was a tough call and we'll see how it work this year, which will determine next years. I'm sorry you won't be able to make it. It was a blast to have you at last years. Glad to have you in spirit though!

Why would people be rude about it? I mean, it's your rally not theirs. I guess people get pretty enthusiastic about scooter events. :D

There's a tiny chance I will be able to make it MAYBE for Friday and part of Saturday but that's very slim. I have to be here for the reunion and help Mom make food and such.

I am hoping to have some DBSC swag for ya and maybe some SPAZ stuff for the raffle at the very least.

that would be super awesome; both if you could make it and for the goodies!

I am soooo there. Nothing is going to stop me. My big goal is to have my wrecked bike rebuilt by then. Plus, the 30 Days SG is planning a full force invasion. We just spent most of our last club meeting discussing logistics for KC. 8)
Did I mention that's my birthday weekend? :bday:

Our school themed, "Fast Times at Mad Toto High", rally page is up and running. Go to http://www.MadToto.com for details and registration. Pre-reg before May and you'll get a chance at a special raffle just for those who've pre-reg'd. Pre-reg in Feb, get 3 entries, March, get 2 and April get 1.

We rides scheduled for friday night (local jogs and the infamous "Back Alley ride") and 6 for saturday, including brewery tour, pop culture in KC and a paintball outing (for those inclined to such masochistic activities and an additional fee). We have pretty much free food all weekend and in some cases libations (except for saturday's dinner, but we are trying to score some discounts). Some great raffle prizes (including a rumored prize with 2 wheels. for each 20 tickets you buy you get 5 free 8) ). your registration fee not only gets your feed for the weekend and access to all of the cool events, but a rally patch (and one of the more kick ass rally patches i've seen yet), a rally t-shirt featuring the "Fast Times at Mad Toto High" logo, a 1" rally pin and some cool schwag (while supplies last of course. first come first serve).

Well, here are the details:

Quote:
Friday:
4pm – Registration begins at Scooter World. (got some spare parts to sell? we don’t have a formal set up for a swap meet, but this would be a great time to bring your extra parts).
Image
6pm – Meet and Greet dinner, included with your registration fee.

8pm -Stay out late on a school night with in town night rides (open to all displacements and riding levels) exploring the areas surrounding Kansas City.

8:15 – the infamous Back Alley ride to follow after the departure of the in town rides. This ride is recommended for experienced riders, as we go off the beaten path and explore the hidden alley ways of downtown Kansas City and the adjacent West Bottoms. Conditions on this ride are of an “off road” type as we encounter brick roads, rough pavement, rail road track, gravel and other various unpredictable conditions. While this ride is always a blast, we must remind you that we are NOT liable for any damage that may happen to you or your scoot. Ride at your own risk! More details will be covered prior to this rides departure.
Image

Saturday:

9:30 – Those wishing to in the scooter judging meet at Scooter World.

10:00 – Chris Cakes pancake breakfast, included with your registration fee).
Image

10:30 – Scooter Judging to begin

11:00 – JR Varsity Gymkhana

12:00 -Varsity Gymkhana

1:00 – Leave for Field Trips (see additional info on the registration page) and lunch at various Chipotle Mexican Grill locations (included) as soon as Gymkhana is over.
Image

4:00 – 5:00 – Break time starts until we meet back up for the prom. Depending on which class ride you take, we figure you can plan to start the break time somewhere between

4-5. Dinner is on your own dime, but we are working on trying to secure some discounts.

8:00 – “All Decades” Prom with music, snacks, and drinks (included). Good times! Prom attire from any decade is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but not technically required. Scooter awards to be given out at prom.
Image

Midnight – Prom ends. See you in the morning

Sunday:

Pre-noon – sleep in, check out and take your time packing up.
12:00 – Lunch (included)

12:30 – Raffle begins while we eat (we are already getting some excellent prizes. In particular, one very awesome prize!). Tickets can be purchased in advance or at various times through out the rally, including Sunday’s breakfast. Buy 20, get 5 free.

and the 6 "field trip" options for saturday (and another reason to pre-reg early, so you can make sure you can get on the limited space rides if you want):
Quote:
Natural History
Image Image Image

This ride will go west to Lawrence, KS, home of the University of Kansas, and an integral locale in Kansas and American history. This ride will be a longer excursion on some back roads, but won’t be a “Fast” ride. 125’s and up are welcome, but as long as your bike can maintain speeds of 45-55 MPH for extended periods, this will be a good ride for you.

We’ll head out of town, then travel off the beaten path through some quaint small towns before ending up in Lawrence. Once in Lawrence, we’ll meander through the KU campus and stop off at the Kansas Museum of Natural History where you can take a self guided tour that includes fossils, live exhibits, and the skeleton of a sea-going dinosaur that used to live in the Kansas plains.

After some time at the museum, we’ll stop by Chipotle for a delicious lunch provided by our generous sponsor. After a gas stop, we’ll continue our scenic ride back to Scooter World where we’ll break for dinner and preparations for Saturday evening’s prom.

Instructor: Jeremy Wayne

Math
Image Image

The math ride is a 51.76 kilometer trek through industrial neighborhoods, averaging speeds of 40-55 kilometer per hour. Leg one is a 20.32 kilometer to Ameristar Casino, to count cards. The second leg is a 14.04 kilometer ride through the east bottoms to our lunch break at Chipolte at 39th and Main street in Kansas City, MO. Followed by the final, 15.40 kilometer ride back to your homeroom.

Instructor: Jason Schnabel

Hydrology

This ride starts out from school playground and briefly follows Indian Creek as it winds through neighborhoods of Prairie Village, Mission Hills, Crestview and across to Swope Park. There we make our first “rest stop” at Colonel Swope Memorial. From there we head south on Blue River Road; a winding scenic drive with trees and parks and the famous ‘shoe tree’. We break for lunch at Chipolte at 135th & State Line. After lunch we mount up and head west and then north along Indian Creek Parkway and eventually end up back at schoolhouse.
Est. ride time: 2 hours + our lunch break.
Est. mileage: 30+.
Instructor: Mike “Kennelkeeper” Levitt

Pop Culture in Kansas City
Image Image

This field trip will take you to the homes, businesses and final resting places of some of America’s greatest icons – from the silver screen, music and literature – all with ties to the greater Kansas City metro area! While some were born here, others just passed through on their way to fame and fortune. Including a lunch stop, this ride will last approximately 3.5 hours. Don’t forget your camera. Ride is limited to 20 scooters.

Instructor: Jeff Tully

Chemistry
Image Image

Take the scenic route down to the largest Craft Brewer in the Midwest, Boulevard Brewing. This field trip will meander over to the landmark smokestack at the BLVD brewery where you will get a tour of one of the most high tech breweries in the country, and get to sample cold tasty beer. Then a stop at Chipotle for some burrito love. Limited to 20 participants, all equal to, or over the age of 21.

Instructor: Paul O’Gorman

Phys. Ed*
Image

We will take a direct urban route through Kansas City, passing through the Crossroads District, the Power and Light District and Sprint Center, up through the heart of Downtown, by the edge of East Bottoms before crossing the Muddy Mo’ and heading to Jager’s Paintball in the Midwest Subtropolis complex.

Jager’s Paintball is an indoor range inside of one of Kansas City’s underground former mining caves. There is an additional fee for this ride that must be paid in advance using our pre-reg website. Please pre-register early to pay for and reserve your spot.

Your fee of $35.00 will cover the cost of your marker (gun), XXX guaranteed rounds (paintballs), approx 125 additional rounds, protective mask and other gear, field fee, taxes, and private cave to compete in for about 2 – 2.5 hours.

Please visit http://jaegers.com for additional information on how to dress and what to expect.

Prior paintball, we’ll enjoy a free lunch at Chipotle 4851 Main Street, Kansas City, MO before heading back to Scooter World. Please note, that the duration of this outing might extend slightly past the allotted time and may use some of the “break time”.

Instructor: Chris Shields

*This rides require an RVSP and an additional cost on top of the standard rally fee. No refunds (we have to reserve the private cave in advance. Sorry).

So go to http://www.madtoto.com for all of the finer details and to register!

AND, for the feel good fuzzy feeling, a portion of each registration fee goes to help Harvesters : the Community Food Network

yep. it was more about trying memorial weekend. doing it the same weekend as amerivespa was just coincidental and not intentional. we've heard yeahs and neahs at about a rate of 50/50, so i guess we'll see what happens. this was in response to the feed back we got last year, in particular the isses of people wanting to start later on sundays so they could gets some sleep, nurse hang overs and check out, as well as our out of town guests having to drive a long distance after an exhausting weekend and then work on monday. we'll see. it's an experiment. the numbers and feed back will let us know if it's successful or not.

and just as an update. the Blvd brewery tour is already 1/2 full

just a heads up as Feb is coming to a close, that means that this only a few days left to pre-reg and get 3 chances at the special pre-reg only raffle prize before your chances go down to 2 person in march. which by the way the prize has been officially determined as a $250 gift card to amazon.com!

don't forget about all of the great stuff you get with your registration- shirt, patch, free food, in some cases free beer, a party, rides, gymkhana, etc

I was hoping to have some SPAZ 2010 patches to send your way for the raffle, but they just shipped today and are coming from Canada. Usually they take a week plus to get here, sorry. :/

All I got now is DBSC patches, some left over Dust Bowl patches, and a handful of SPAZ carabiners...

Maybe the SPAZ patches will arrive in time for me to get them out to you guys.

I'll miss yall too. :/ Our rally plans are looking dim this year so I may end up going to OKC and thats it for this season. Sad.
